Norther
back

In 2000 Finland’s frozen grounds spat out a bunch of Norsemen who flocked together to become what is
now known as one of Finland’s most renowned metal-outfits: NORTHER. Petri Lindroos (who also joined
Ensiferum as lead vocalist/guitarist in 2004) and some friends had made their first attempts at walking
the metal earth under the moniker Requiem back in 1996 until Kristian Ranta (guitar) joined forces in
2000. That’s when NORTHER saw the light of day and released their first demo which subsequently led
to a deal with Spinefarm Records. Shortly after that first success the guys from the cold north allied with
Jukka Koskinen (bass, also in Wintersun) and Tuomas Planman (keyboards) to finally create a stable
line-up for NORTHER. Within a few years NORTHER became one of the most promising Finnish bands
combining the best of Death, Black and Thrash Metal with haunting melodies.
The albums "Dreams of Endless War" (2002), "Mirror of Madness" (2003, licensed by Century Media
Records for US release), "Death Unlimited" (2004) and "Till Death Unites Us" (2006) helped the band to
build up a world-wide fan base, perpetually growing.
In 2007, NORTHER left Spinefarm Records to self-release their “No Way Back” EP which entered the
Finnish charts at #1 and marked the debut for drum talent Heikki Saari. The summer of 2007 was
highlighted by a successful Wacken Festival show followed by an European headliner club tour in
October and further progress in completing their new album.
Right on time for the label’s 20th anniversary NORTHER joined Century Media and are now looking
forward to presenting their new opus to their old and new fans and to a busy year of extensive touring
throughout the world.
The band’s Century Media debut simply entitled “N” was recorded and produced by long time partner
Anssi Kippo (Children Of Bodom, etc.) at Astia Studios and mixed by Fredrik Nordström (Dark
Tranquillity, Arch Enemy, In Flames etc.) at Studio Fredman in Sweden. Their stunning new effort sees
NORTHER perfecting their mix of ripping riffs, aggressive vocals and epic melodies and will be premiered
live at the well-known Finnish Metal Expo on February 16th, 2008 in Helsinki. With the release of the
massive metal anthem “We Rock” as Finland-only single plus a new video currently in the works
NORTHER are destined to induce 2008 with a metallic kick-off par excellence…
